Description

Head to the historic center of the Plateau and begin the walking tour through the Jaime Mota Military Barracks, passing by the Presidential Palace and Alexandre Albuquerque Square. Visit the municipal market (closed on Sundays), meet the locals, and find a diverse range of local fruits and vegetables. Explore Cape Verde's largest flee market, the Sucupira Market. Next, visit the highlights of Cidade Velha, a World Heritage Site that represents the cradle of the Cape Verdean nation and culture. Arriving, your first visit will be to the Royal Fortress of São Filipe. Originally built to defend the city from pirate attacks, the fort provides 121 meters above sea level. Then, explore the ruins of the first cathedral in sub-Saharan Africa and see the fishermen returning from the water with their traditional boats full of fresh fish. Head to the old slave market of Pelourinho, the famous Banana Street with its traditional houses, the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, and finally the Convent of São Francisco. At lunch, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the city and taste the local gastronomy in a typical restaurant with a sea view. The tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel in Praia.
